kimslockets I’ve been meaning to post this for awhile so please forgive the lateness of the content, but!

Here are the awesome lockets that I received in Hello Craft’s Upcycled Secret Santa Swap.

They are quite awesome and I have worn them many many times over already.

Thanks Kim!

I Lost My Handmade Holiday

Mail I’m an avid procrastinator and so therefore didn’t finish all of my family’s gifts as timely as I wanted. So I spend an exorbitant amount of money to have my packages picked up on the 22nd of December with the guarantee that they would safely arrive at their destination by the 24th.

Well, one package arrived safe and sound and the other is lost.

I figured that the northeast has been under constant assault from the winter weather and that everything might be delayed, so no worries right? But over a week later, the tracking number only indicates that the box was picked up at my house.

I called my friendly USPS customer service number to see what I could do. They placed a “research” on my package (whatever that means) and that I should hear back from them today. Ha!

I understand that things get lost in the mail here and there and that that is what insurance is for. But since all my gifts were handmade, they are priceless to me. Will I ever find another pirate chest as awesome as the one I found? Sure I can knit up another calometry and print out another iron on, but gees, this sure sucks.

At least the mustache glasses arrived.

You ever lost a handmade item in the mail? What did you do?

My Handmade Holiday – part 2

mustache glass I wanted to share a bit more of what I created for those lucky gift receivers out there. I realize that I am probably giving some things away for parts of my family, but I’ll take my chances.

For my often hard to shop for brother, I got him these rockin’ mustash pint glasses, by Bread and Badger. I figure even if he doesn’t appreciate them, my sister-in-law and the kids will love them.

For said sis-in-law, I went with a suggestion from Becky over at Hello Craft and went with Calometry. I should have checked the forums first and went with their suggestions the first time around. The second try came out much better. I’ll have to knit one up for myself.

Peace, Love and Cookies

Cookies waiting for the oven For as long as I’ve lived in D.C., I’ve gathered with friends around the holidays and baked cookies. These are extremely crazy baking sessions with too many cooks in the kitchen.

We always have much fun, making too many cookies and assorted baked goods. In the end, we never want to take the fruits of our labor home, knowing that if we do, we will eat them all.

On Saturday, we proceeded with this tradition and broke our previous record of most people in one kitchen and most diverse set of baked goods made.

I think we covered everything. Spritz cookies, sugar cookies, chocolate-chip cookies, cupcakes, chocolate-chip pumpkin bread, chocolates, brownies and apple cake.

I wonder what next year will bring.
